We hold a double-elimination event which means each kicker can miss once but if they miss twice they are out. We continue kicking until one person is left standing. Students attempt to complete a field goal circuit with kicks from 30L, 30R, 35L, 35R, 40M, 45M and 50M. Usually a winner is determined at or before 50 yards. But sometimes 2 or more students are still ‘alive’ so we go back as far as 53, 55, 60 or even more to determine a winner! The current camp record is 65 yards set by Lucas Havrisik (2015) & Hunter Everett (2016). The winner of the field goal competition for each age group is honored with the ‘Golden Boot Award’ which signifies they are the most accurate kicker at camp. As the event draws on when only a few students are left we incorporate crowd noise, distractions and real-life scenarios to further develop our students for pressure situations!
Starting with our 2018 camp season (and 2017 invite-only Showcase) we’ve since revised our kickoff and punt formula to more accurately value the hang-time portion in relation to it’s distance! Each student will still receive 3 kickoffs and 3 punts at our camps and 5 kickoffs and 5 punts at our annual Showcase event. The formula change is as follows:
New Formula (2018 and newer)
Kickoffs
(Distance average) + (Hang-Time average) *17 = SCORE.
Punts
(Distance average) + (Hang-Time average) *11 = SCORE.
This new ‘multiplier’ helps keep the value of a kick or punt and the value of it’s related hang-time equal at 50/50%. Whereas in year’s past, the distance was much more greatly rewarded sometimes skewing the results. We’ve fixed that by multiplying the hang-time by 17 for kickoffs and 11 for punts.
Old Formula (2017 and older)
Distance average + Hang-Time average = SCORE.
The below chart explains what we perceive to be the ‘typical’ distance to hang-time relationship for a kickoff or punt.

College Football Coaches, Special Teams Coordinators and Recruiting Coordinators believe in our system of evaluating kicking, punting & snapping ability because the results are based on how you perform. There is no hidden agenda or manipulation of the kicking competitions. Our kicking competitions do the best job at simulating a pressure game environment. Many students e-mail a link to their competition results to colleges interested in them. Also, many coaches sort and view our kicking competition stats page to aid their recruiting search. It’s an excellent tool to further validate and provide ‘proof’ of your kicking ability.

Congrats to the current 2020 Kicking World camp season leaders! We list the top 5 campers for each of our 3 events – field goals, kickoffs, punts. To be eligible for the leaderboard the camper must have won that event. Only campers winning a KW competition (in their age group, or overall) are eligible for the leaderboard. Formal Kickoff & Punt competitions are only held at 2-Day camps and Showcase events. Field Goal competitions are recorded at every camp. Have your chance to be added to this year’s leaderboard based on your at camp competition performances!
Here are the Top 5 winning distances for the Kicking World double-elimination field goal competition during the 2020 camp season. Each camper is allowed ‘1 miss’ and advances to the next kick in the sequence (30L, 30R, 35L, 35R, 40M, 45M, 50M, 55M, 60M, etc) until a winner is determined. At 40 yards and beyond we introduce distractions/noise/pressure to simulate a real game experience!
