65 Yard Camp Field Goal Record Tied!

At the Kicking World October 11, 2020 Denver kicking camp, Class of 2023 kicker Dax Iverson (Fremont HS, Utah) tied the long-standing camp field goal record of 65 yards.

At our October 11, 2020 Denver Kicking Camp first-time camper Dax Iverson (2023 – Fremont HS, UT) tied the long-standing Kicking World camp record of 65 yards. (Watch the video of the camp record-tying kick below).

With the theme of the year 2020, the day’s weather came as no surprise, albeit bizarre. The early fall camp started with beautiful blue skies and temperatures in the mid-70s. As the day went on the temperature dropped to 56 degrees and with a forest fire in the distance and a strong wind/dust storm it got wild rather quickly. Although with a chilly wind and dust blowing in our eyes, it ultimately helped the campers hit some bombs during the double-elimination field goal competition. We marked on the camp results a +8 yard wind advantage with gusts over 25 mph, wow!

Not only did first-time camper Dax Iverson shine, returning HS freshman – Class of 2024 kicker/punter Benjamin Bell (Rock Canyon HS, CO) stepped it up big time hitting a 55 & 60 yard field goal and making 6 consecutive field goals through 45 yards. The performance earned the freshman a spot on the KW Hot Prospect List. Also, long-time KW campers – Class of 2021 K/P Connor Mantelli out of Douglas County HS, CO and Caden Smith – Class of 2023 K/P from Legend HS, CO both earned spots on the List based on their overall solid performance on FG/KO/P. All 4 are confirmed for the 2020 National Showcase taking place in December 5-6 in Austin, TX.

There were lots of big kicks throughout the day and it was a really exciting & fun event. We look forward to seeing if anyone will break the camp record this year, now currently sitting at (3) KW campers tied at 65 yards!

So far this year FIVE campers who won a KW event with a 60 yard field goal and Dax taking the lead with the 65 yarder. Will the all-time record be broken this year? Only 1 regular season camp remains – this Saturday in San Diego, CA and then our season-ending National Showcase in Austin, TX on December 5-6.

What makes our Field Goal Competition different?
Each camper is allowed ‘1 miss’ and advances to the next kick in the sequence (30L, 30R, 35L, 35R, 40M, 45M, 50M, 55M, 60M, 65M, etc) until a winner is determined. At 40 yards and beyond we introduce distractions/noise/pressure to simulate a real game experience! We also strictly enforce using the same camp footballs precisely inflated to the same PSI and in new to lightly used condition. Other Camps permit students to use their own footballs which are allowed to be significantly broken in (bomber balls) giving a huge unfair advantage against realistic conditions. Those campers leisurely kick at their own pace with very little pressure and are able to get into a rhythm with no delays. At Kicking World we keep the campers in order and there are periods between kicks which tests your ability to stay focused just like 4 quarters in a football game where you can’t get into a groove by kicking one after another quickly.

2020 National Showcase
It all goes down on December 5-6 at the 2020 Kicking World National Showcase. The event is a pivotal platform to get our students’ names out there and get them discovered & recruited by college football coaches. 95 of the 112 students invited (over 1,200 campers this season) have accepted their invitations to join us on December 5-6. It will be our largest National Showcase ever with student-athletes in the Class Years 2021-2025 hailing from 35 states. The YouTube Live Broadcast will draw in a couple of thousand viewers and as always multiple students will receive offers and serious interest immediately following the event.
