The top Class of 2022 Kicker/Punter on the Kicking World Hot Prospect List, Florida native Robert Gunn III has committed to Clemson Football. The high school junior secured six scholarship offers – from Clemson, Texas, FAU, Army, Navy, and Air Force before deciding Clemson, South Carolina would be his next home.

Robert had a phenomenal workout with us on June 2 in Austin, Texas in preparation for his unofficial visits and camps at Texas and Clemson. He had later visits planned to Georgia, Florida, and Florida State with many new schools coming into the mix late; but after the epic Elite Retreat weekend in Clemson, he knew he wanted to be a Tiger. Less than 48 hours after receiving the life-changing scholarship offer from Coach Dabo Swinney, Robert made his commitment official with a very classy commitment letter posted on Twitter.

“From the coaching staff to the facilities and most importantly the Culture, it was a first-class experience all around.”

In recent training sessions with me and at our Kicking World camps Robert hit several kickoffs over 80 yards with 4.2-4.4 second hang times and drilled multiple field goals over 60 yards. He hit one kickoff for a whopping 4.5 seconds of hang time at our March 2021 event in Orlando, Florida and I can’t recall a high school kid ever doing that before. During the camp he attended at Clemson last week, Robert kicked a 61 yard field goal over Coach Swinney’s head that the staff said was good by 7+ yards, and I’m pretty sure that sealed the deal!

Leading up to the Elite Retreat Weekend where Robert was one of less than a dozen Class of 2022 recruits on campus, I had numerous phone conversations with Clemson’s special teams coach, Bill Spiers. Coach Spiers is a former punter for Clemson who also played baseball professionally. We talked about Robert and kicking in general, and each call was filled with class and genuineness. I’ve read and heard about the culture at Clemson but until you speak with one of their coaches it’s hard to truly realize it. From my talks with Coach Spiers and the very special surprise FaceTime call with Coach Swinney, I was blown away by Clemson’s sincere interest in not just finding the best talent but landing student-athletes with character that they can help mold into accountable young men on and off the field.

With 4 early blind (evaluated off of film & phone calls) D1 offers from FAU, Army, Navy, and Air Force, recruiting finally opened up post-pandemic, and since June 1 high school football recruits would have the opportunity to prove what they could do in person, in front of college coaches. After a lights-out performance on the 40 acres (Texas Longhorns) Robert received his first Power 5 conference (Big XII) scholarship offer from The University of Texas Longhorns. With UT being less than 30 minutes from Kicking World HQ here in Austin, Texas – having the ability to coach Robert on a routine basis would have been a wonderful opportunity. However, the weekend experience in Death Valley far exceeded Robert’s wildest imaginations and he knew it was the right place to be. In a tweet during the visit, he wrote “…The nicest people I have ever met! Thanks to all the coaches and staff for really making me feel like family.”

In Robert’s commitment letter he wrote “All these years of training hard, making sacrifices, trusting the process, and putting my All into kicking has finally helped me realize my childhood dream of playing football at the next level.”

Something that speaks volumes about Robert is his Loyalty and All In mentality. Robert attended his first Kicking World camp back in the 8th grade and he was the first-ever KW student to earn a National Showcase invitation that wasn’t yet in high school. He trusted the process and stuck with us from Day 1. Throughout the last 4 years, camps of all sorts have been trying to lure him away from Kicking World with promises of better opportunities and more exposure, etc., but he stuck with us and followed our proven process to a T. This proof of work goes to show that families don’t need to fly to 10 different camp companies in search of greener grass. Find someone you trust, who knows what they’re doing, who will guide and mentor you throughout the entire process, who is an expert when it comes to fundamentals & technique training, and a company who has the brand recognition and track record to help get you noticed like we do at Kicking World!

Everyone at Kicking World is so proud of Robert and we can’t wait to put on some purple and orange and visit Death Valley for the first time ever to watch him help kick Clemson to another National Championship. GO TIGERS!

“I will work my tail off to give Clemson all I have, every minute, every play. GO TIGERS!”
