Matt McCrane - HS Class of 2013 Kicker Prospect

Matt McCrane

Class of 2013 Kicker

Brownwood HS
Brownwood, TX
K-State (offer), Texas, Texas Tech, SMU, Baylor, Air Force
Pittsburgh Steelers / K-State

12/27/18 Update: Matt was picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers after they placed kicker Chris Boswell on the IR. On Sunday, December 30, 2018 he kicked 3 total field goals with one 47 yarder and a late one with minutes left in the game to help the Steelers beat the Bengals 16-13.

9/26/18 Update: The Oakland Raiders signed Matt McCrane out of free agency as their starting kicker got injured. Matt made his NFL regular season debut on Sunday, September 30, 2018 kicking a 29-yard game-winning field goal.

08/31/18 Update: Matt was cut as the Cardinals trimmed down to the 53 man roster after Preseason concluded. Matt was 100% on FGs (including a 54 and 53 yarder) for his inaugural NFL Preseason and showed extreme consistency across FGs, PATs, and KOs, is smooth under pressure and I feel he is deserved of being on an NFL roster. Awesome Write-up and Recap on Matt’s preseason w/ the Cardinals.

4/28/18 Update: The Arizona Cardinals signed Matthew in Free Agency minutes after the conclusion of the 2018 NFL Draft! He will go into summer camp and the NFL Preseason competing against long-time veteran kicker Phil Dawson.

Matt left K-State with virtually every single season and career kicking record, surpassing former K-State & NFL kicker Martin Gramatica. Matt proved his consistency with impressing FG% numbers and only missing 1 PAT in his entire collegiate career (133/134). During college, Matt served as a Kicking World student coach for 2 years during 2013-2015 after having trained under Coach Brent. Matt helped mentor younger aspiring kickers teaching the fundamentals he learned through KW camps and private lessons with Coach Brent. During this time he also saw Coach Brent for tune-up lessons. As a HS sophomore Matt was the winner of the prestigious ‘Golden Boot’ at our Dallas, TX camp (May 2011) and later earned a full scholarship to K-State.

Coach Brent’s synopsis on Matt the summer of his sophomore year in college — Matt has a very accurate field goal leg, having more than proved himself as the most accurate kicker in the nation as a freshman at K-State. Would like to see more hang-time and greater distance on kickoffs. With improved power on kickoffs, and Matt continuing to perfect his foot to ball contact which will lead to higher, straight kicks, with consistent ball rotation, he could potentially gain the attention of pro teams.

*High School notes – Matt set a school record with a 52 yard FG and earned several all-conference, all-district, and all-state teams while at Brownwood HS.
