How Our Kicking Competitions Work

Field Goals
We hold a double-elimination event which means each kicker can miss once but if they miss twice they are out. We continue kicking until one person is left standing. Students attempt to complete a field goal circuit with kicks from 30L, 30R, 35L, 35R, 40M, 45M and 50M. Usually a winner is determined at or before 50 yards. But sometimes 2 or more students are still 'alive' so we go back as far as 53, 55 or even more to determine a winner! The winner of the field goal competition for each age group is honored with the 'Golden Boot Award' which signifies they are the most accurate kicker at camp. As the event draws on when only a few students are left we incorporate crowd noise, distractions and real-life scenarios to further develop our students for pressure situations!

Kickoffs
Each student has 2 kickoffs and is measured on distance and hang-time. Formula: Distance average + Hang-Time average = Total Points.
i.e. K1 50 Yards, K2 60 Yards and HT1 3.5 seconds and HT2 4.0 seconds would be:  (50+60) /2= 55 yard avg. +  (3.5+4.0) /2= 3.75 second average. Add 55 and 3.75 to get total points of 58.75

Punts
Each student has 2 punts and is measured on distance and hang-time. Formula: Distance average + Hang-Time average = Total Points
(same as above)

Notes
College Football Coaches, Special Teams Coordinators and Recruiting Coordinators believe in our system of evaluating kicking and punting ability because there is no guesswork or opinions involved. The results are based on how you perform. There is no hidden agenda or manipulation of the kicking competitions. Our kicking competitions do the best job at simulating a pressure game environment. Many students e-mail a link to their competition results to colleges interested in them. Also, many coaches sort and view our kicking competition stats page to aid their recruiting search. It's an excellent tool to further validate and provide 'proof' of your kicking ability.
